Are you planning on buying an Apple Watch?

A watch for Private Investigators?

I am torn right now, after reviewing all of the news and marketing materials that Apple has put out it’s not a no-brainer for me.  I don’t see any features that would help P.I.’s specifically.  In particular I don’t see that it has a camera where you could take pictures or video from your wrist discreetly. I don’t see a walkie-talkie feature or anything that would help you quickly communicate with your team in the field without having to take your phone out of your pocket.  This is all disappointing considering that I am a huge iPhone and iPad fan.  However the reported high prices of this device make you really ponder the purchase.  I don’t want buy this thing and not use it because it doesn’t have any great features. If it was a hundred bucks like a Fit Bit or other health trackers it may be worth the cost.  The features will certainly grow over time as companies make apps for the Watch and other features are added by Apple when the Apple Watch 2 or 3 come out in years to come.  This may have to be one of those wait and see purchases. Please let us know what you think, do you plan to purchase, any great apps you can think of that would be handy […]

Supercharge Gmail and Google Apps

Boomerang for Google Apps

Our number one recommended email program is Google Apps.  This is the business version of Gmail that lets you use a custom email address .  We switched away from Microsoft Outlook about three years ago and havent turned back.  The service is free and has many great features, however in the beginning it lacked many “advanced” features that Outlook had like the ability to request a “read” request for an email and to schedule emails to go out in the future.  Now with a free add-on to Google Apps called Boomerang you can schedule emails in the future and receive reminders to follow-up should you not receive a timely reply. They offer a free version that works for us and they also offer a paid version for power users and it is well worth the money.

Blur faces in video

private investigator blur video infidelity surviellance

I remember my very first case as a licensed Private Investigator that wasnt being done for another Private Investigator, that is the client was mine directly. It was a very weird feeling some lady was calling me from another state and said that her fiance was traveling to my city and she thought he might be seeing another woman.  I had tons of surveillance experience but this would be my first infidelity case and I was excited and nervous at the same time.  This was all new to me, I didn’t know the do’s and don’ts of a case like this as I did for Insurance surveillance cases.  This client paid me for eight hours of surveillance which was about the same I made for an entire week working as an employee for another Private Investigator so I thought this was going to be awesome! I took the case and sure enough the guy was seeing another woman, they didn’t leave the house at all. The only time I saw him was when he came out the balcony with the girl, both in their bath robes acting inappropriately.  I was very happy that I caught this on tape but now I realized I had to break the news to the client.  This seemed to come natural to me, and the client thanked me profusely. Paperless Mail

zumbox review

We have been receiving our snail mail for some time through a special service called Earth Class Mail.  It is a service that picks up your mail from a special PO Box and scans the mail and emails you a pdf of your mail.  It has many other options like iPhone access, check deposits, and the ability to have the physical mail sent to you.  It’s a great service for Private Investigators and those who travel a lot.  The only downside is its very expensive, starting at about thirty bucks a month and two dollars each time you have a piece of mail scanned. There is now a free alternative, although it’s not the same service exactly but gives you a way to get all of your personal bills from companies like AT&T and Direct TV in one space.  Its called Zumbox and you tell it your address and the login information for these companies and it will sign you up for paperless billing and bring your bills all into one place with the ability to pay them paperlessly. It’s still pretty new and the companies available are limited however they have received some venture capital and should be expanding their services soon. Let us know what you think?
