Supercharge Gmail and Google Apps

Boomerang for Google Apps

Our number one recommended email program is Google Apps.  This is the business version of Gmail that lets you use a custom email address .  We switched away from Microsoft Outlook about three years ago and havent turned back.  The service is free and has many great features, however in the beginning it lacked many “advanced” features that Outlook had like the ability to request a “read” request for an email and to schedule emails to go out in the future.  Now with a free add-on to Google Apps called Boomerang you can schedule emails in the future and receive reminders to follow-up should you not receive a timely reply. They offer a free version that works for us and they also offer a paid version for power users and it is well worth the money.

Blur faces in video

private investigator blur video infidelity surviellance

I remember my very first case as a licensed Private Investigator that wasnt being done for another Private Investigator, that is the client was mine directly. It was a very weird feeling some lady was calling me from another state and said that her fiance was traveling to my city and she thought he might be seeing another woman.  I had tons of surveillance experience but this would be my first infidelity case and I was excited and nervous at the same time.  This was all new to me, I didn’t know the do’s and don’ts of a case like this as I did for Insurance surveillance cases.  This client paid me for eight hours of surveillance which was about the same I made for an entire week working as an employee for another Private Investigator so I thought this was going to be awesome! I took the case and sure enough the guy was seeing another woman, they didn’t leave the house at all. The only time I saw him was when he came out the balcony with the girl, both in their bath robes acting inappropriately.  I was very happy that I caught this on tape but now I realized I had to break the news to the client.  This seemed to come natural to me, and the client thanked me profusely. Tout it Out!

shout it out

Our new favorite software is a Google Apps or Gmail plugin called Tout App. This thing is great and something we have been looking for a long time.  After installation it integrates tightly with Gmail so you can send emails and track when and where the email is opened.  This is great when sending contracts or payment request to clients, you want to make sure they received the email and have read it.  This answers the question for you so you don’t have to bug them with follow-up calls or emails. The free trial we have been using works great, it allows five trackable emails per day which is plenty for us.  You don’t have to track every email only the ones you want.  When composing an email it gives you the option to just send it or “tout it” which makes it trackable. They are not upfront about how the email is tracked, older programs that did this required an invisible image to be displayed on the recipients screen which told the software the email had been viewed.  But newer email programs including Outlook and Gmail have the ability to stop images from being displayed in emails.  The Tout App seems to circumvent this somehow.  They also track if any links in your email are clicked, so it would be a good idea to upload […]

4 Faster Ways to Blog

private investigator blog

Do you blog? It may be easier than you think.  Many Private Investigators don’t think there is any value in Blogging.  They think they don’t have the time or ability to put their thoughts into a format suited for all to see.  This may be true if you are thinking about a traditional blog like the one you are reading.  Writing an educational or informative blog post does take a little bit of time and preparation.  If you want your blog post to be read, than it takes a little bit of research and skill as well.  Most of us do not want to mess with any of this just for the off-chance someone might read it sometime and decide to hire us. There is a much easier way to blog, keeping in mind that you can blog about anything and you don’t really have to call it a blog.  Most Detective Agency Websites that have the word “Blog” listed on their website, it usually leads to a boring lengthy article that they paid someone to write or stayed up in the middle of the night to concoct.  These entries are usually outdated and irrelevant to the website visitor.  To a modern client an abandoned blog just looks unprofessional and gives the impression that you don’t care.  The same impression you give […]

For Immediate Release!

press release for private investigators

In an earlier post I talked about the advantage of issuing Press Releases for SEO purposes and I was poised the question “should I use the free or paid Press Release distribution company’s.” Here was my answer:  I would certainly start with a paid site like PR Web or pr.com it will get better visibility than a free site. It will also get picked up automatically by the free sites.  Just make sure you opt into having a live link embedded in your press release to your site.  If you are going to start issuing a lot of releases then you could start alternating where you post them and include the free sites.   Additional the paid sites will give you options like a “company profile” and a the ability to have a specialized website that will certainly help with SEO because it will include your company name in the url.
